What a GREAT DEBUT WILDgreenDIVA NightOUT!

T'Was a Dark and Stormy Night!

and all thru the Sustainable Building Products shop, CANOPY, were what may well become the hard-core center WILD WOMEN of the WILDgreenDIVAS! We had a GREAT time and it seemed to me that we've hit upon some very interesting and FUN ideas for helping New Orleans to become GREENER and More ECO-Conscious!

Yes, We ARE WILD and we ARE learning to be GREENER in our Lives...and we want to help OTHERS to do the same. AND have fun along the way. Nuttin' wrong with having a little fun along the way, right ladies?

Well, so Thursday night...rain and thunder and lightning making it a very exciting night to be out...we began to gather around six pm. Wine and some delightfully tasty treats to nibble on, we charged into a most enjoyable evening, and in a most colorful and enjoyable way, first introduced us to some of the best and greenest sustainable lawns and gardens around New Orleans...

Demetria, co-owner of EcoUrban Sustainable Landscaping held our attention by showing us some of the most incredible images of edible landscaping and carefully planned biodiversity...the kind of gardening and landscape planning that makes chemical protection and weed-killer type chemicals absolutely unnecessary. It was a fascinating and fun talk!

Next up, Peter and Brittany with our host company, CANOPY, showed us some absolutely LOVELY bamboo and all kinds of incredible building products that are 100%FREE of formaldehyde and other toxic chemicals. These products last and they are completely sustainable, which means that they don't deplete ANY natural resources. Using products like this is a Fabulous way to BE WILD and GREEN!



Hotel Furniture Liquidators...How many of us have noticed beautiful furnishings at Five Star Hotels and wondered about having matching pieces at home...well, now not only is is possible but it's also preferable...reusing furniture rather than purchasing New is a much Greener and More Sustainable choice...and besides...it's so beautiful!

Thanks Kenny, the SUPER-friendly Warehouse Manager for bringing us some fun wine and setting up a very comfortable seating area for us to enjoy!

Jarrod Broussard, owner of the company stays close to the information beltway, often learning about hotels that are closing before anyone else. Their inventory is constantly changing so there is always something new and definitely something for everyone at Hotel Furniture Liquidators!

Next stop was the Bridge Lounge down the road. Max, the manager at the Bridge Lounge invented just for us, a very special WILDgreenDIVA, a shot, which every DIVA tried. MMMMmmmmmm! Max! You GO! WHAT A GREAT DRINK! We LOVE the Bridge Lounge...it's a new FAVORITE WILDgreenDIVA hangout! Thanks to Everyone at the Bridge Lounge...the room in the back is a GREAT place for private functions and it served as a great place for us to be able to listen to some wonderful Brazilian guitar-playing...with RICCARDO CRESPO on hand to serenade and enchant us, we couldn't be anything but happy...He had us delighted, up on our feet and DANCING! (What a FUN NIGHT!)

They commented casually that EVERYONE would have something wonderful to say about the food that they provided.

THEY COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE ON THE MONEY! The food they sent over, the sandwich samples, the pastry samples..the SOUP! OHHH The SOUP!!! YUMMMmmmmm!!!
You two have built a DREAM SHOP! I for one hope the secret doesn't get out too quickly..I'd like to have a phenomonal place like this available for a BIT of time before it becomes INSANELY busy, which it will!! The coffee got more responses than any coffee sampler I'd ever heard people comment on..."Wow, that's GREAT COFFEE!", was pretty much all I heard! Marty and Donna, Demetria and Travis, Brittany and Peter, Jarrod, Ian and Kenny, we are so happy to have you onboard as DIVAadvertisers!"

and Special debt of thanks to KAYA CAPUTO, phenomenal portrait artist whose work truly and effectively captures the beautiful spirit of New Orleans' own Mardi Gras Indians. Her work evokes a depth of feeling and connection...the faces she has captured reflect inimitable strength of spirit and of strength. KAYA hasn't yet had the kind of attention of which her work is deserving. I believe that being a GreenDIVA is going to be wonderful in a very positive way for Artists like Kaya here in New Orleans!

Green Dating

Please don’t hate me for starting my very first column with these words, “Think about it!”

No hate yet, right? I sure hope not… but then again, you, beautiful reader, wouldn’t be reading this magazine if you weren’t already thinking About It. And the IT to which I refer is…Living Responsibly.

Understanding now that everything we use, buy, trade, build with, destroy with, manufacture with,…everything needs to be held to a certain standard…and that standard is: How Sustainable, Renewable, Recyclable and/or reusable is this item? …and we’re thinking about it more and more…well, we think about it IN BETWEEN classes, clients, office visits, patients, AND… SAINTS, WAVE, WOLF PACK and TIGER Innings, periods and quarters, right?

This stuff IS important or it is becoming very important to us as we begin to understand what we’ve finally figured out that there is now something misguided about the way we’ve been living on this home planet of ours. Now, more and more of us are learning how to live our lives and make the changes that are necessary in order to begin feeling like we are living responsibly and caring for the environment and the other species with whom we share this blue-green star in the Galaxy.

We’re beginning to realize that certain things, like breathing clean air, and hoping future generations have clean air to breathe, not killing off all ocean life and living within our Earthly means are actually things that very important to us AND….(now I’m coming to my point.)…we’re beginning to realize that we really would prefer a mate who’s as interested in living in a way that coincides with nature and a sort of “Code of Sustainability”, right?

Am I close?

It’s important that they be at least interested in learning and not stonewalling us that it’s all a crock and no point anyway. (I’ve heard it. I know you have.) Am I getting warmer?

So, dating green. Had you thought about it? Have you tried it? There are a number of green dating sites, as they’re called…sites where you can meet people who care about the environment and put extra time into doing what they can to help by reducing their carbon footprint, living as vegans, vegetarians, etc.

The sites are fun and interesting. A few of them are FREE, such as: http://www.green-passions.com/ , which is designed specifically for Raw Foodists, Activists, Animal Rights Advocates, Vegetarians and Environmentalists. Or there is http://www.planetearthsingles.com/ a basic site for green-thinking individuals who want to meet a like-minded person. And then, there is the best known Green dating site so far, of course: http://www.greensingles.com/ which has had wide success…so there are choices out there. Weeding thru them won’t, of course, be any different than it is on Match.com or eHarmony for finding a guy with whom you share not only ecological interests but so many other ‘Life and the living of it’ interests and values.

The Search goes on, however, in meeting people on sites like these, maybe it’s easier since it’s likely that you won’t have to repeat on a daily basis that uneaten pieces of pizza go in either the trash or the composter and not in the recycling bin and that, yes, his NASCAR fixation does have represent an environmental cost beyond his comprehension.

Life gets easier at almost the same speed it grows more challenging.

As you read this monthly column, I hope to be much more helpful and maybe a bit fun as well!

In fact, let me share quickly with you what I hope to accomplish with this column. You, my readers..single maybe, but all of you interested in socializing with others who care as much about recycling and living a sustainable life as you do. In many situations, support groups help. So…for green-conscious singles, dating…well, how about a support group for Green Dating….how do you feel about that idea? AND…further…how about being able to get discounts with participating advertisers!

It would work like this: Say you read their ad in our pages and you see a little “GreenDiva” symbol in the corner of the ad…it represent s to our little ‘support group’ that they are of particular interest to us…and they have agreed to honor us with a discount or a freebie or some such add-on to their service to us particularly, as green single ladies.

And once-monthly, we’ll take time to engage with and visit a select number of our vendors. They will prepare a presentation, a demonstration or simply a very nice hosted evening of wine and goodies, where we may peruse their wares or services. AND…we’ll also include a dining and/or drinking venue at the end of the night where our male single readers will meet up and MINGLE to your spectacular Green Hearts’ desire with Green Men of New Orleans.

Some ideas for demonstrations and presentations would be an Exercise Trainer, Yoga Teacher, or perhaps a cooking demo or tango lessons or maybe a talk by one of New Orleans leading health care practitioners…all just ideas and possibilities for what could be one of the most entertaining events of the month, every month!
